  • The German HiPP Formula Range

The complete collection of German formulas from HiPP features several different product lines and stages. Their bestselling Bio Combiotic formulas are a cow's milk option made with organic and natural ingredients that closely mimic breast milk. HiPP goat milk formula is an excellent alternative to cow milk-based formula. For extra-sensitive little ones with more niche nutritional needs, they have several non-organic specialty options, including their Hypoallergenic, Anti-Reflux, and Comfort Milk. We'll take a closer look at what makes each of these formulas unique next!

    HiPP Bio Combiotik

In German, 'Bio' translates to 'organic,' and 'Combiotik' is HiPP's own clever term to refer to the combination of prebiotics and probiotics used in this tried-and-tested series of formulas.

Research reveals that the tummy-friendly formulation of HiPP Bio Combiotik formula supports the development of a healthy gut microbiome, more similar to that of breastfed babies. It can also strengthen the immune system and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections.

These gentle formulas nourish little ones starting with Stage PRE at birth, all the way into toddlerhood with their Kindermilch. Unlike the earlier stages, HiPP Kindermilch Stages 1+ and 2+ are not organic, but they are GMO-free.

    HiPP Goat Milk Formula

For babies with sensitivities to cow's milk, organic baby formula made from goat's milk is a gentle alternative. HiPP Goat formula contains easy-to-digest A2 proteins and is offered in HiPP Goat Stage PRE and HiPP Goat Stage 2. Please note that goat milk formula is not suitable for babies with lactose intolerance or cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA).

    HiPP Comfort German

HiPP Comfort German is a soothing solution for common digestive issues during the first year of life. This special formula is uniquely created for the management of flatulence, lactose-related 3-month colic, and constipation. It's crafted with extensively hydrolyzed whey proteins, reduced lactose levels, gentle fats, prebiotics, and probiotics, which makes it easy for tiny tummies to digest. You can offer your little one this milk between 0 and 12 months of age. Please note that this special formula should only be used under a doctor's supervision and is not suitable for infants with lactose intolerance.

    HiPP Anti-Reflux German

While small amounts of spit-up are normal for many babies, if your little one spits up more than usual, they may benefit from a special anti-reflux formula. HiPP AR German formula is thickened with locust bean gum, ensuring a creamy consistency that helps keep milk in the stomach to prevent reflux. AR formula should only be used on the advice of your pediatrician.

    HiPP HA Combiotik Formula

If your little one is sensitive the the proteins in cow's milk or has a family history of allergies, HiPP HA Combiotik formula offers an easily digestible, low-allergen alternative to conventional formula products.

The recipe is the culmination of over 25 years of immune research and has been shown to strengthen the immune system, reduce the risk of allergic reactions, and help balance the gut microbiome in babies. These effects are achieved through a blend of comforting ingredients, including extensively hydrolyzed whey proteins, lactose-only carbohydrates, probiotics, and prebiotics.

The range includes HiPP HA PRE, HiPP HA Stage 1, and HiPP HA Stage 2. Stage PRE is also available as Hipp HA PRE ready-to-feed, offering a comparable recipe to the powder format but without the probiotics.

    HiPP Ready to Feed Formula

HiPP offers a range of liquid formulas for their Bio Combiotik and HA formulas lines. HiPP ready-to-feed formulas come conveniently premixed, eliminating the need for you to add any additional water or powder to the bottle. That means you can skip the measuring, mixing, and mess that comes with powdered formula preparation.

Simply shake, open, and pour ready-to-feed milk into a sterilized bottle, and you're all set to feed your baby. These convenient and portable formulas are great for on-the-go, when other caregivers are looking after your little one, or for those late-night feeds when you need a bottle fast.

Their Bio Combiotik formulas are available in 200ml ready-to-feed bottles and includes two infant formula options, namely, HiPP PRE ready-to-feed and HiPP ready-to-feed Stage 1, as well as one Stage 2 follow-on milk.

The liquid recipe is quite similar to the powdered version, with a couple of key differences. First, probiotics are not included in the liquid formula because live bacteria cannot survive the heat treatment it undergoes. Additionally, the ready-to-feed formulas are palm oil-free due to the inclusion of milk cream. Finally, HiPP ready-to-feed Stage 2 omits starch, distinguishing it from the powdered version of this formula.

As for the hypoallergenic option, only Stage PRE is available in ready-to-feed bottles. The only difference between the liquid and powdered versions of HiPP HA is that the ready-to-feed bottles include prebiotics but not probiotics.

    Difference Between HiPP German Stages

The majority of European organic formulas are offered in distinct stages designed to replicate the dynamic changes in breast milk throughout lactation. The exception to this is that some special HiPP German formulas, such as their Comfort and AR milk, are suitable for all stages of development. Up next, we'll explain what the different stages mean, when they're suitable to use, and the compositional changes that occur across them.

    HiPP German Formula Comparison

    Infant Formula

The brand offers two stages of infant formula: HiPP German Stage PRE or HiPP German Stage 1. Both formulas provide little ones with a complete source of nutrition suitable for exclusive or combination feeding from birth to 6 months.

The main difference between the two is that while all the carbohydrates in Stage PRE are exclusively from lactose, HiPP Stage 1 includes a small amount of starch to make the consistency slightly more creamy. You can offer a PRE formula for as long as your little one is happy with it. Eventually, some parents choose to switch to Stage 1 because their babies are no longer satisfied with just the PRE milk.

    Follow-On Formula

There are two stages of follow-on formula: HiPP German Stage 2, which is suitable from 6+ months, and HiPP German Stage 3 for older babies from 10 months and above. Both formulas are specifically adapted to the needs of weaning-age babies, providing them with a higher amount of iron and calcium compared to earlier stages.

Stages 2 and 3 both include starch as a complementary carbohydrate, which creates a creamier consistency and a more satiating milk compared to their infant formulas. However, HiPP Stage 2 No-Starch is a suitable alternative for more sensitive stomachs, as it features lactose as the sole source of carbohydrates. Lactose is a simple sugar and the primary carbohydrate in human milk, making it generally easier to digest than complex carbohydrates like starch.

    Toddler Formula

As the final step in feeding, some parents choose to use toddler milk. In this case, HiPP German Stage 4 or Stage 1+ Kindermilch for little ones 12+ months and HiPP German Stage 2+ Kindermilch formula from 24+ months are both excellent options. These formulas can help support a balanced diet as they're a valuable source of vitamins C, D, iodine, and calcium.

It's important to note that these formulas are not organic because European organic farming regulations prohibit organic certification for products fortified with vitamins and minerals that are not legally required. While the nutrient fortification of Kindermilch is beyond the legal requirements, it can be beneficial for enhancing your toddler's nutrient intake and is based on the current recommendations of the German Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

    All-Stage Formula

Some HiPP German formulas are only available in a one stage. This includes their Anti-Reflux and Comfort formulas, which are designed to be the sole source of nutrition for infants aged 0-6 months and can also be part of a mixed weaning diet for those aged 6-12 months. These special formulas are provided in a single stage because they are only needed for as long as it takes to alleviate symptoms, and most infants show improvement in the conditions these formulas address by the time they reach 12 months of age.

    HiPP German Formula Ingredients

This German brand is well-known for their use of high-quality, clean ingredients. The following formula components are what grant them their premium status.

    Essential Omega Fatty Acids

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) are omega-3 fatty acids, and Arachidonic acid (ARA) is an omega-6 fatty acid. These ingredients support your baby's brain and eye development. All HiPP formulas contain DHA and ALA, but only stages PRE, 1, and their all-stage formulas include ARA.

    Prebiotic Oligosaccharides from Lactose

Galactooligosaccharides, or GOS for short, are prebiotics used in HiPP formulas. Given that lactose is the primary carbohydrate in breast milk, GOS is also naturally found in human milk. These dietary fibers feed beneficial gut bacteria, supporting the development of a healthy and diversified microbiome.

    Probiotics from Human Milk

Probiotics are beneficial live bacteria that support gut and immune health in babies. While breastfeeding is a natural way for babies to obtain probiotics, most HiPP German formulas also provide these beneficial bacteria. HiPP uniquely uses probiotic lactic acid cultures originally extracted from real breast milk, allowing formula-fed babies to receive important bacteria that help promote a balanced and diverse gut microbiome.

    Organic Milk

The cows and goats whose milk is used in HiPP formula have access to open-air grazing and lush natural pastures, where no pesticides are used. A heavy emphasis on animal welfare ensures that happy animals produce nutritious organic milk.

    Organic Vegetable Oils

All HiPP German formula is based on skimmed milk, which means that milk fats are removed and partially replaced by a nourishing mixture of organic palm oil, rapeseed oil, and sunflower oil. This creates a balanced fatty acid spectrum more similar to breast milk. If you prefer to avoid palm oil, their Bio Combiotic Ready-to-Feed formulas use cream in place of palm oil.

    Vitamins and Minerals

Of course, no HiPP formula powder is complete without essential vitamins and minerals. To highlight just a few, vitamin D and calcium contribute to the normal development of bones and teeth, which is especially important during your baby's growth spurts. Other micronutrients, such as vitamin E, are involved in healthy central nervous system development, and zinc plays a crucial role in various functions, including immune support and sensory organ function.

Please note that the specific ingredients may vary by product. You can find complete ingredient details and nutrition facts on the product pages of our website.

What You Won't Find in HiPP German Baby Formula

A good formula is not defined only by the ingredients it uses, but also by what it leaves out. You won't see any of the following on an ingredients list from HiPP.

    No Added Sugars

HiPP German formula emphasizes natural ingredients based on the excellence of breast milk. As such, it does not contain any added sugars or artificial sweeteners. The naturally mild sweetness of lactose does the trick of keeping their formulas both healthy and delicious for your baby.

    No GMOs or Artificial Ingredients

All HiPP formulas, whether certified organic or not, are free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and artificial ingredients.

    No Soy

All HiPP German formulas are proudly soy-free, meaning they contain no soy milk, soybean oil, or soy emulsifiers.
